SERVICES FOR ADULTS

An extensive collection of books, videos, recorded books, magazines and CD's may be borrowed from the Adult Services Area. inside of the Nancy Guinn Library - books and periodicals available for adult readers.Internet terminals, word-processing computers and microfilm reader-printers are available for public use. Specially trained staff members are available to help you find the information you need from the up-to-date reference collection, on-line, or from the general collection. They will also help you find recreational reading to enjoy.

Reaching beyond the Library walls, the Adult Services staff can obtain specific books or magazine articles from other libraries for you through Interlibrary Loan.
Specialized areas in the Adult Services department include the Special Collections Room with Georgia history and genealogical materials, and the Center for Healthy Learning, a broad collection of health-related materials. Classes on An Introduction to the Internet, and Advanced internet are offered on a regular basis. Call 770-388-5040 for details.

SERVICES FOR CHILDREN

The Children's Services Area offers an excellent collection of books for all ages, including board books for infants and toddlers, and books for beginning readers. In addition, children can borrow videos, recorded books, magazines, and musical CD's. Also available are book-and-cassette packages for young children.

Children's Services staff can guide parents and children in finding both recreational and informational materials. Computers with learning games and research information are located in the Children's Services Area. There is also special seating just for children, as well as a playhouse and toddler climbing area.

Programs for infants through young adults are offered in Children's Services. Some programs require advance registration. For further information, or to register for a program, call 770-388-5040. An annual summer event for children and young adults is the Vacation Reading Club, filled with fun activities, programs, and prizes.

SPECIAL COLLECTIONS
The Special Collections Room has information on the history of Rockdale County and neighboring areas, as well as the state of Georgia.  Also in the Special Collections Room is genealogical material - from books on how to trace your family tree to old census records that will help you find your ancestors.  The genealogical collection and research is supported in part by the Rockdale Genealogical Society and by the Rockdale County Heritage Book Committee.

GENEALOGY
The Rockdale County Genealogical Society supports the Nancy Guinn Library, and is active in its volunteer program.  The Society meets on the second Sunday of each month, at 3 p.m., in the downstairs meeting room of the library.  (The date may change during holiday periods.  Please call to confirm the date during these times, 770-388-5041.)

LAW LIBRARY
The Rockdale County Law Library's relocation to the Nancy Guinn Library  in 1991 was a result of a Joint Venture between the Conyers-Rockdale Library Board and the Law Library Board.  Funding is provided primarily through fees collected from cases filed in the Rockdale County Courts.

The Law Library offers The Official Code of Georgia, Georgia Digests and Appeals, form books and WESTLAW the on line legal source plus more titles.

The staff will gladly assist patrons in how to find the materials, but are unable to interpret the law, give any legal advice, or advise patrons in the selection of forms needed to file papers with the court.

Law Library hours are:
Monday, Thursday & Saturday     10 a.m -  5 p.m.
Tuesday & Wednesday               10 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Closed Fri. & Sun.

Book & Media Return Boxes
Book and Media Return Boxes are located at three county fire stations.
Locations are:

  • Station #2 - 4048 Troupe Smith Road (Honey Creek area)
  • Station #3 - 2450 Old Salem Road (Fieldstone area)
  • Station #4 - 3601 Union Church Road (Lorraine area)
  • Milstead Village Shopping Center - 1573 Ga. Hwy. 20 (Book Return Only)

Please Note:  If you borrow videos frequently, please know that it might be a week before your videos are picked up.  So, if you want to check out more videos within the week, you should take the videos back to the Nancy Guinn Library.
